Tilbury on the Thames Trust, the Port of Tilbury Logistics Academy and the Royal British Legion, have launched an innovative training scheme and bursary to create tailored opportunities for veterans and their families to develop their skills and future employment potential.
The ‘Attention to Logistics’ training programme and bursary scheme has been created to specifically focus on the veteran community, helping ex-service men and women and their families back into work through the logistics sector. The programme will be delivered by Tilbury on the Thames Trust in association with the Port of Tilbury Logistics Academy and is now open for applications via the website – http://tott.org.uk/attention-to-logistics/
The Port of Tilbury already has an established award winning Logistics Training Academy located within the port estate that now offers the training and support to the veteran community alongside developing a centre of excellence in training for the Logistics Sector. The Academy will also create a state of the art technology suite, including a new simulator, as part of the training facilities.
Stuart Wallace, Chief Operating Officer of Forth Ports and Chair of Tilbury on the Thames Trust said: “This is an exciting development for the Port of Tilbury and for the area as a whole. The port is over 130 years old and firmly rooted in the local communities as both an employer and a contributor to the economy. The launch of the Attention to Logistics programme delivered by our award winning Logistics Academy, will create improved pathways to new opportunities for veterans whose military service make them well suited for careers in Logistics.
The Port of Tilbury is expanding and significant warehouse investments are being made in the Thames Gateway, with the number of jobs in the Port alone is projected to increase from 3,500 to 9,000.”
