Camera Telematics has been recognised by UK Ports, the trade authority tasked with supporting and advancing the ports and maritime industry, for its commitment to dockside safety. The Safety Innovation Award was presented at the recent UK Ports Seawork Exhibition 2026 to celebrate the impact of advanced technology solutions that are providing added protection and peace of mind to anyone working in the port environment.
The special accolade is part of the UK Ports Innovation Awards, which celebrates excellence across port management, innovation, technology and sustainability. “We have given Camera Telematics this special award because of their efforts to drive port safety through innovation,” explains Bill Anderson, Managing Director of UK Ports. “This commitment to reducing dockside risk represents an important element of the digital transformation process.”
Camera Telematics’ advanced safety solutions are now in use at eight ports across the UK and Ireland. This includes a robust multi-camera system specifically for terminal tractors, which can cover the front, off-side and near-side as well as the vehicle controls. The near-side device is fitted lower, over the wheel arch, to provide a clear view of the fifth wheel, underneath the trailer and the trailer leg. A wireless magnetic camera can also be located on the trailer to provide an additional rear-view. Footage is available to the driver via an in-cab monitor, with HD clarity and night vision providing optimal visibility 24/7 in all conditions.
Errin McNamee, Director at Camera Telematics commented: “We are constantly exploring new ways to enhance safety and risk reduction in the port environment. Looking forward, AI-powered detection systems will soon be able to identify stevedores and other personnel in blind spots, providing drivers with real-time audible and visual warnings to prevent collisions. Meanwhile, sensor integration will allow operators to take a multi-layered approach to safety that creates a shield around workers and equipment.”
“We are absolutely delighted to win this award, which recognises the huge strides we are making within the port sector. Our aim is to use the latest advances in video telematics and fleet technology to mitigate the impact of dockside risk and help to ensure that everyone gets home safe,” he concludes.
